History of Birregurra

Birregurra is a charming town with wonderfully restored facades and a rich historical past. Originally named Bowden’s Point, Birregurra became a thriving town with its railway being the lifeblood of the vast Otways timber industry in the early 1900s. Staying in Birregurra accommodation is a great way to relax, enjoy this history and tap into the Otway Harvest Trails. The trails include restaurants, cafes, wineries, breweries and farmers’ markets.

Not only is Birregura along the Otways Harvest Trails, but you will also be close to magical walks that lead visitors through ancient forests and waterfalls. Plus, there’s a Birregurra Heritage Walk which takes you on a 90-minute tour through the historic township.
